Its origins may lie across the pond in Italy, but thanks to the city's large Italian community, pizza has become something of a signature dish in New York. Celebrating the iconic dough-based food item is the New York Pizza Festival, which holds its 2nd edition this October, providing a showcase for some of America's most renowned pizza makers, plus visiting chefs from Italy and other high profile names from the culinary world. Taking place over two days, the event is one again expected to draw tens of thousands of hungry visitors keen to tuck into the mouth-watering fare on offer. As well as tastings from 30 pizza makers, there'll also be lashings of wine, beer and pumping live music to help keep that appetite alive. Proceeds from the event go to local NY non-for-profit, Slice Out Hunger.
