Yesterday a mix of an improvement in consumer confidence, hawkish central bank commentary and poor 2- and 5-yr auctions pushed Treasury yields higher which weighed on equity markets. In a similar fashion to what we saw at the end of last week the S&P 500 outperformed ending essentially unchanged as Nvidia extended it post earnings rally. However, the equal-weight version of the index closed lower by 0.7% breaking its 50d ma and closing just under last week’s low. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also broke those respective levels. The weakness in US markets bled into global markets overnight. Hotter inflation readings in Australia and Germany are keeping upward pressure on longer dated Treasury yields with 10/30yr yields up ~3bps but 2yr yields have moved a bit lower after approaching 5% overnight. S&P futures are currently trading ~0.8% below fair-value which is slightly above last week’s low. Russell 2k futures are down ~1.4% after the index outperformed yesterday closing around unchanged.
