KENTUCKIANA MOTORSPORTS PRESENTED BY LUCAS OIL

It is this weekend: The Greatest Spectacle in Racing: The Indy 500!  For many weeks drivers, crews, and teams have prepared cars. It is now time to put all that hard work into play- on the track!  Josef Newgarden is the defending champion and remains a favorite this year. It will be the 108th running of the history Indianapolis 500 over the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.  A couple weeks ago, Alex Palou won on the Indy Road Course.  2021 NASCAR Cup Champion Kyle Larson will attempt to run in the Indianapolis 500 this year, then rush in a plane to Charlotte to battle in the 600.  Only a handful of NASCAR drivers have attempted the feat. The last NASCAR Cup racer to compete in the Indy 500 was 7-Time NASCAR Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson

In the NASCAR Cup Series, the military will be front and center when the stars of the top racing series hit the track for the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte.   NASCAR always pays tribute to those who have served at this major event. Penske driver Ryan Blaney won last year.  Ford's have looked strong as of late. The 600 is a long, tiring race. It takes a good handling, and a durable car to stay in front. And a driver in good shape mentally and physically to wheel the car for so many miles!

Speaking of Ford, Penske backed driver Joey Logano dominated the All-Star Event in North Wilkesboro.  Denny Hamlin finished second. As the post-race television interview with Logano was winding down, a fight broke out near the garage/hauler area. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was quite upset. He was forced to leave the race after only a few laps when Kyle Busch pushed him into the wall. Apparently, Busch felt Stenhouse forced him to brush the wall a lap earlier. After the race, words were exchanged, Stenhouse physically roughed up Bush and then they had to be separated. In a post-race and post-fight interview, Stenhouse made an interesting observation. Yes, he felt like he did nothing wrong. But Stenhouse said Bush isn't winning like he used to do. And Stenhouse said, for a driver like Bush, it seemed to take a mental toll, the lack of wins and domination. He speculated it led to Busch becoming angry.  Again, the physical altercation took place after the race, and off the track.  It is unlikely NASCAR will take action.  But that doesn't mean NASCAR won't tell Busch and Stenhouse to end the feud, at least when it comes to racing.  It is worth mentioning that Corey Heim picked up his 3rd NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win of the 2024 season at North Wilkesboro.  He is a rising star and will be in Cup full-time soon.  Louisville's Ben Rhodes qualified well but never was in contention to run for the win at North Wilkesboro.  Ben and his team have started slow in recent years.  He is the defending Truck Series Champion. Now is the time to find some magic if he's going to make the playoffs.

The NHRA battled over the weekend in the Route 66 Nationals in Illinois. Lucas Oil has sponsored the series and racer Antron Brown for years.  He is a 3-time Top Fuel world champion. He picked up career win 75 at the Route 66 Nationals.  Antron Brown picked up his 75th career win on Sunday at Route 66 Raceway.  Gaige Herrera won at Charlotte two weeks ago in Pro Stock Motorcycle. And he won again in Illinois. Matt Hagan took the event title in Funny Car and Dallas Glenn claimed top honors in Pro Stock. The NHRA takes a break over the holiday weekend. It is back in action at the New England National May 31 through June 2.

At the local tracks, there is no racing over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend at the Salem Speedway (Next race is June 8th) or at the Sportsdrome Speedway.  But note The Drome has a night full of Action June 1st! And it includes the popular School Bus Figure 8 Showdown!  We encourage you to support local racing, local drivers, and local race teams.  And don't forget the sponsors lending a helping hand. It is great family fun. The Sportsdrome Speedway in Jeffersonville is celebrating 78 years of excitement, the Salem Speedway has a strong history too. Other area tracks are the Ponderosa Speedway in central Kentucky at Junction City near Danville, Beech Bend in Bowling Green (KY), and just outside of Louisville in West Point Kentucky is the Ohio Valley Dragway. Do check social media pages weekly for last minute updates, weather info, and ticket specials.

Race teams know you have to be in strong mental, emotional, and physical shape to wheel a competitive car or truck around the track.  Running 100 short track  or 500 big laps can be challenging for a driver. Seconds count when hitting the pits for service.  A crew must be fast and make no mistakes.  And all must be physically ready.  Then there are wrecks!  A car slams into a wall or a racer is caught up in a multiple car mishap.  Safety equipment has improved greatly over the years. Still, drivers and crew members get medical help for aches and pains. And that includes back and spinal care.

Locally, Dr. Paul Constante with Dynamic Chiropractic has helped treat college, pro, high school, and other athletes for years. The list of Louisville area patients includes racers.  Professionals and every day people also turn to Dr. Constante and his team for chiropractic care and treatment. He serves patients from Kentucky and Southern Indiana.  Learn more at: www.louisvillespineandinjury.com

Click on the short videos below as Dr. Paul Constante talks about different injuries, treatments, and precautions with your back, spine, and body.
