Unspoken Courage of the Prescott 19 Firefighters

I want us all to remember and honor the Prescott 19 Firefighters for their bravery and courage: powerful, yet unspoken. When I think of the ultimate sacrifice they made and the families and friends they left behind, I am filled with a feeling of gratitude for their dedication and professionalism of these men and all of those who that we depend on daily to keep us safe. These are our unspoken heroes and that is who I created my painting for”UnspokenCourage” for.  Image

True Integrity~ The Contemporary Mona Lisa

“True Integrity~The Contemporary Mona Lisa”

35 x 35 inch Framed original oil on canvas by Pomm

The portrait of Lisa Gherardini, Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” is widely considered the most famous painting in the world. In a nod to the Renaissance,  I am bringing back the art of the portrait in a beautiful and modern way and creating a contemporary “Mona Lisa.”

My new collection of paintings focuses primarily on the beauty that women create daily. I am inspired by the emotions in the art of the renaissance painters and the beauty in women. The faces angelic, yet passionate. A story to say just by the tilt of a head.

I created my painting “True Integrity” to change the world and replace Da Vinci’s iconic painting. We need a new “Mona Lisa!” I want your opinion: is this too controversial or are you in agreement?

Creating the Contemporary Mona Lisa

The portrait of Lisa Gherardini, Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” is widely considered the most famous painting in the world. In a nod to the Renaissance,  I am bringing back the art of the portrait in a beautiful and modern way and creating a contemporary “Mona Lisa.”

Each person has a story that is uniquely theirs and it is my job to bring that story to life.  I work one on one with my clients  to understand who they are and what their hopes and dreams are. When I am doing the photo shoot and I’m talking to the person, I talk about their dream and I have them tell me what their dream is, and I keep bringing that dream back to them and I want to see that sparkle in their eye when they actually feel they can achieve their dream and that’s the moment that I capture in the paintings.

As I start thinking about the creation of their painting,  it’s about the aesthetic moment that is created between the artist, the subject, the mood, the setting, the aesthetic design, the viewpoint of the artistic director and the lighting. These are all elements of beauty that exist that we overlook.

My creative team of photographers, hair and make up artists, and art directors help to create the story. Before the painting is even created, we ride a magic carpet of imagination through the universe. We are absorbed in the creation as team of kindred spirits that contribute on the same aesthetic wavelength.

The experience of having your portrait painted is a rare opportunity to tell your story and one I look forward to creating with you. Click here to see my newest video on my new paintings:

Creating Beauty

I love sharing my art and I am very excited for you to see my newest creations:

Pomm’s Renaissance Inspired Paintings

With all of the art I create, I am always trying to capture the beauty in life and one of my great pleasures is to uplift the viewer through my art. My new collection of paintings focuses primarily on the beauty that women create daily.

I am inspired by the emotions in the art of the renaissance painters and the beauty in women. The faces angelic, yet passionate. A story to say just by the tilt of a head.

I am also creating these paintings to capture who the person really is- not their outward appearance, but their inner significance. I want to know what their hopes and dreams are- what are they passionate about. This is what I want the viewer to see in my paintings.

I am very excited to share these new paintings and have scheduled an ART EXHIBITION and VIP RECEPTION on March 31st, 2012 at Million Air, Burbank, California. Please call the studio if you would like to attend: 818-244-7150.

Our Contest Winner!!

"Chrissy's Place"

Contest Update: A Winner!

I am pleased to announce that Debra Lynn Durgin is the winner of my Chrissy’s Place  Contest! She has won the very valuable Printer’s Proof of my painting “Chrissy’s Place” and her story is featured below in today’s BLOG.

Honorable Mentions go to: Ryan Hayes, Gerald Gros and Dick Bauerle. Thank you to all those that submitted stories for the contest. I loved reading each of them and I appreciate the thought and creativity that went in to all of them. Here now is our winning story:

“Chrissy’s Place”

by Debra Lynn Durgin

When I was nine years old, my parents took me to France. Each morning we would have tea and croissants at a little café in the square. I could see this magical street winding down a beautiful alley. I would ask Mama if I could take a walk down that street. She would say, “We have too much to  do dear,” so I would day-dream about what I would find down that little street.

One morning I saw this beautiful boy, standing in the middle of the street with the sun on his hair, like an angel. Our eyes locked for an instant, my heart raced, and my fingers felt tingley. I thought this must be what if felt like to be in love, just like the movies.

For my college graduation my parents sent me back to France. I never forgot that boy. I went back to the café every morning and I walked the beautiful alley. The smells of people cooking, the clothes lines, the signs of people living, the colors of the building: oh how I have dreamed of this place and wished I could be here! For eleven years I have wanted to walk this street. Then, there he was, the angel boy! We locked eyes. We walked into each others arms as if we knew some day we would meet again.

It felt like coming home.

Note from the author: “My Dear Pomm, each and every painting you have for me has a different story, every day depending on how or what I am feeling. Sometimes when I cannot sleep and my mind is wheeling, I look at your website just to feel happy. Your art takes my breath away- you are a gift!”

Thank you Debra Lynn, your beautiful story and heartfelt note made me smile and fulfilled my purpose as an artist.

Love,

Pomm

Emotional Elegance

Today I am featuring a guest blogger: Sara White! Sara is an Illustration Major at Rhode Island School of Design. Her post will fill you in on the history and background of portraiture which is the major theme of my new collection of paintings….

Portraiture, the artistic representation of a specific individual, dates back to the sculptures and paintings of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome.  After these civilizations were conquered and Europe became a largely Catholic empire during the Middle Ages, the art of portraiture became almost entirely religious.

However, beginning in the late 1300’s, Europe emerged from the proverbial Dark Ages into a rebirth of the arts sponsored by wealthy patrons we know as the Renaissance.  These works were almost always created with oil paints on canvas, allowing for bright and luminous colors that we associate with classic portraits such as Leonardo’s “Mona Lisa.”  When a client was interested in commissioning a piece, they worked with the artist as a sketch was created with concepts for color, lighting, attire, and positioning.  Ultimately, the final portrait was not only an aesthetic piece of art, but also functioned as a way for individuals to be remembered as they wished in a world without modern technology.

To this day, photography has become the strongest example of the legacy of portraiture.  Pomm is interested in revitalizing this classic method of portraiture in her newest collection.  She will be producing new oil paintings where she skillfully creates pieces with an “emotional elegance” that nods to both the Renaissance and the era of Impressionism.

Thank you Sara!

Next up: a modern portrait.

Chrissy’s Place- last call for submissions!

"Chrissy's Place"

Through the Red Door

"Through the Red Door"

This is the last call for submissions to the “Chrissy’s Place” Story Contest. I want to personally thank those of you that have submitted stories and much more so far. It makes me so happy that my art inspires you to create such beautiful and touching stories. If you are thinking of submitting a story but haven’t done it yet, please do! I love reading all of them and they are all unique and clever in their own way. It will be very hard to choose a winner but someone is going to win- why not you?!

A FUN CONTEST!

One of the things that people love about my art is that it reminds them of some place they have been to or some pleasurable moment in their lives. And, they love the stories that go with my paintings.

When I was learning to paint, I was taught to create some indication of “life” in my art. In my non-figurative paintings, something is left on the ground such as a key, a note, or flowers. Sometimes I include notes left behind on the door with small gifts, a bag of groceries or a bouquet of flowers left on a table. I always put someone in my paintings, but they are off stage and doing something else. Often I include “hidden images” such as Chrissy in the painting above. (Click on the image to see a larger view and to spot Chrissy.) The great thing about this is the viewer can make up his or her own story as to who they are and what they are doing.

This is where you come in: I want to know what you think is happening in my painting “Chrissy’s Place” shown above. I have decided to have a contest to see who can come up with the best story. Use your imagination and tell me in your words what you think best describes the story behind Chrissy’s Place. Is there a romance? A mystery? You decide!

My painting “Through the Red Door” is a companion piece to “Chrissy’s Place” and I wanted to share it with you to give you more inspiration as you are working on your stories. If you compare these two images, maybe you can imagine Chrissy walking down a side street in the village following the trail of flowers, or leaving the trail of flowers- you decide!

The winner with the best story will receive a very valuable Printer’s Proof of “Chrissy’s Place” and their story will be featured in my blog and posted on my website. I am so excited to read your stories!

Of course I do have my own story which I will share in a later blog post. In the meantime, let your imaginations run wild and send your stories to: gail@pommfineart.com

Creating Beauty

With all of the art I create, I am always trying to capture the beauty in life and one of my great pleasures is to uplift the viewer through my art. I have begun creating a new series of art that focuses primarily on the beauty that women create daily.

I am inspired by the emotions in the art of the renaissance painters and the beauty in women. The faces angelic, yet passionate. A story to say just by the tilt of a head.

I want to remind people about some of the most beautiful things in the world. Women make an effort to create beauty daily. They present themselves as beauty and this is what I want to capture. In the coming weeks and months, I will be posting updates on my new paintings.

I am very excited to share with you, my friends, my newest creations, and I hope you will follow my progress through this blog.
