About the Author


Elisa Mattiello holds a Ph.D. in English Linguistics from the University of Pisa, where she now carries out her research and teaches courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Faculty of Modern Languages and of Political Science.

Her scientific interests are in the fields of morphology, pragmatics, text linguistics, sociolinguistics, translation and lexical semantics.

As an undergraduate student, she worked with the Coordinator of the Socrates-Erasmus Project, Prof. A.K. Isaacs, and focused on English linguistics. She graduated with a thesis on the linguistic forms and pragmatic functions of British understatement.

As a postgraduate student, she attended various international specialization courses (e.g. in Düsseldorf and London). In 2006 she collaborated in a Research Project at the Department of English Studies of the University of Pisa, and in 2008 in the online Master in Translation of Specialized Languages.

Her research has produced various articles published in national and international journals or collections. Recent publications include the papers “Difficulty of slang translation” and “A morphopragmatic analysis of English and Italian negative prefixes”.

She is author of the monograph An Introduction to English Slang: A Description of its Morphology, Semantics and Sociology (2008)
