A fairly mild start to Tuesday across many parts of Britain and Ireland thanks to southerly winds feeding in ahead of a frontal system that's lingering across western regions. The next few days see winds back more easterly in many areas bringing some milder air in, but also mist and murk to eastern coasts.
There's a fair amount of cloud around this morning across much of northern and western Britain along with Ireland, that cloud thick enough to bring some outbreaks of rain from time to time. Some of that rain is on the heavy side, especially across parts of southwest England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and further pulses of rain will run northwards across many western regions throughout the day although some drier interludes are likely at times too.
This leaves many central and eastern regions of the UK with a mainly dry day. Early low cloud and any patchy drizzle will soon break up and move away to the north to leave many places here with spells of warm sunshine for much of the day although the odd isolated heavy shower cannot be ruled out by this afternoon.
It will be a rather windy day, especially in the west, but warmer with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 15°C in the cloudier and damper parts of the west and 16°C to 19°C in the sunny spells across central and eastern Britain. However, as winds start to come off the chilly North Sea so north-eastern coasts will be cooler.
Winds will be backing more and more to the east or northeast in many areas over the next day or two and a frontal system pushing in from the east will bring a band of cloud and rain westwards during tomorrow before the more showery conditions become restricted more to southern regions for the rest of the week with the north drier and brighter although North Sea coasts will be cloudier and cooler.
