Today is Endangered Species Day, created to spread awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species and the necessary actions needed to protect them. In March, Penguin Coast keeper Julia and Zoo veterinarian Andrea traveled to South Africa to lend their skills to our long-time African penguin conservation partner, SANCCOB saves seabirds. African Penguins are an endangered species and unfortunately, their population continues to decline due to overfishing and climate change. We are thankful that were were able to help provide great care and support to these birds with the goal of SANCCOB releasing them back into the wild. When you visit and support the Zoo, you make conservation projects like this possible! #africanpenguin #endangered #endangeredspeciesday #endangeredspecies #sanccob #southafrica #conservation #savingspecies #allforanimals #zoo #marylandzoo #fieldwork #inthefield #penguin
