Platinum PIAs

About the Platinum PIAs Community Awards Show in New York City 2010 – 2019

The Platinum PIAs Community Awards Show was an annual recognition ceremony that was established in 2010 and had in its title the acronym PIA or P-I-A which stands for “People I Admire” as well as a variety of other meanings.

Why from 2010 to 2019 were artists, businesspersons and educators recognized for making a difference in their communities? Because affirmation can lead to positive change for the good of all.

Each year the Platinum PIAs ceremony was held in New York City, usually in either March or April and was sometimes done live with an invited audience, while on a few occasions was an online-only event.

In-person locations included iconic NYC venues such as Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Screening Room where the first PIAs was held in 2010, as well as Tribeca’s event space, DCTV (Downtown Community Television Center in a historic firehouse) and many more.

The decisions on who PIA winners were, were generally done by a group of judges assembled from the community.

The PIAs were intended as reminder of the power we all have and do, and are sometimes not aware of doing, which involves friends, family and those who we work with: make a community.
