Sustainability
NUS is contributing to a global task force, which aims to identify key technical standards and metrics for synthetic biology and the international bioeconomy. With Assoc Prof Matthew Chang who is the Director of the NUS Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation as the only member from Asia, our involvement also positions Singapore as a leader in this fast-growing field.
Impact
Organised by the School of Continuing and Lifelong Education, the NUS Adult Educator Symposium on 23 April 2024 unpacked learner centricity and its impact on adult learners. Attendees got the opportunity to learn best practices from experts in the field and network with like-minded practitioners for enriching knowledge-sharing.
Education
School was not the easiest for Nuryanee Anisah, who was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age. But thanks to her creative brain, and the entrepreneurial skills she has picked up along the way from NUS College and NUS Business School, Nuryanee leads her team of clothesmakers at Commenhers, a social enterprise she co-founded, to give new life to thousands of kilograms of fashion waste every year.

Many parents are indulging their children’s online habits without realising they are actually exposing their children to undesirable content from a young age. Prof Teo Yik Ying, NUS Vice-President (Global Health) and Dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at NUS opines that it is time to recognise children’s addiction to mobile devices and social media as an urgent problem that requires stronger actions to be taken. By taking action, we are protecting their physical and mental health.
Minister for National Development Desmond Lee recently launched a roving exhibition for the Recreation Master Plan, which aims to create more spaces for residents to engage in leisurely and recreational activities. Dr Woo Jun Jie, Senior Lecturer at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, delves into why Singapore has placed so much emphasis and expended so much effort in planning its recreational spaces, and why such spaces are important in the first place.
