Europe Day celebrates the anniversary of the signing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950. The declaration, which called for the organization of Europe as essential for maintaining peace, is a founding act and a symbol of the European Union.

Europe Day is an opportunity to celebrate the values that characterise Europe.

This year, the theme "Lines of Fault" was explored in six Canadian cities outside Quebec: Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax, Edmonton, and Moncton. In Ottawa, three personalities offered their unique vision on the theme "Lines of Fault" through selected works from the National Gallery of Canada.

For his first trip outside the European Union, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal visited Ottawa, Quebec and Montreal, from April 10 to 12, 2024.

As part of his visit to Canada, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal took part, alongside Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in the inauguration ceremony of the Amicitia monument in Beechwood National Military Cemetery in Ottawa.
