09-09-2011, sold the car last night.
Thanks for all of the interest about this car. When I got out the papers I realized I had owned and driven this car since December of 1997. It's been a good friend all of these years!

Hi guys,
I smogged two cars today, and they both passed!
For sale is my very own 1979 X1/9. I want $3,500.00.
The car is located in Santa Cruz CA USA, and the paperwork is clear in my name.
I am selling it because I have too many!

This is my very own car. I use it for touring & traveling. It gets 35+ MPG on the highway & while being run on mountain roads. It's got just over 103,000 miles on the clock. I got it with about 65,000 miles. At that time I rebuilt the 5 speed transmission, and fixed everything as needed while using it as my driver. It's currently painted the stock silver with blue trim, but if you don't like the blue trim and want it all stock color with flat black trim I can easily fix that. Let's talk.

The interior is in excellent condition, the seats have been redone as stock.
The transaxle is perfect. The clutch is great.
The 1500 engine runs great. All service needed has always been performed. Besides the great fuel mileage, it gets about 750-800 miles out a quart, so it's starting to show some age. The secondary throttle has been modified so it opens with your foot. Folks always ask me what I have done to the motor to make it run so well... It's stock.
The suspension is all KYB struts, with Big Foot doublers, new strut top mounts, and Plaia Pivots. It's not been aligned since the top mounts & big foot where installed, but I will do that as part of the price. The tires are good, the rims are currently the stock 1979 steel wheels.
The body is great. It has a few flaws, but nothing bad. It's not a show car, it's a driver. It has a very rare 1979 matching right side exterior mirror.
This is NOT an air conditioned car, and it has manual windows. Both major good things in my book!
The cooling system does it's job without issues.
The brakes are great, the clutch hydraulics are great.
Everything that needs to work does.
And it has a nice radio/CD player.

This is such a nice car that I don't care where you live, you can drive it home. As long as your house is not over a big pond...
I take it on tours with Fiat America, it runs and drives so well it's usually at the front of the pack. On our last big tour even the seriously modified cars said I didn't slow em down.

I've only inserted one picture. If you want to see more just let me know what you want to see & I will shoot them for you.
Want to talk? Email me at fiatplus*aol.com. Or you can call me at work all day long Monday & Thursday, or on Friday mornings at 831 423 0218.

Get a great car owned & prepared by a serious Fiat enthusiast before someone else does!

Major selling point here, that Chris is being modest about. This car was featured in a magazine article. If memory serves, this was an article comparing the X to a Ferrari.

I have the issue somewhere.

It's actually been on two magazine covers. The one you are remembering is a comparison to a Ferrari. I have a copy of that one in a pile o magazines, next to my bed.

Hello Chris

Hey Chris, way back in 1996 I called you at FIAT plus for a 4 speed transmission for my '78 X, which you sent to me in Puerto Rico, and it worked perfectly. Now I have a '86 that needs an engine cover.

You will surely sell your '79 very soon. I would buy it, except for the big pond problem.
I read the article regarding the comparison to a Ferrari 308. I prefer the FIAT.
