Storm Doors & Screen Doors

General Info

Removable screen/storm assembly

Vintage Doors screen doors feature a removable screen insert which can be replaced by an optional tempered glass or Plexiglas storm insert to help you to keep out old man winter and making it a snap to stain or paint your door.

Screen and storm inserts are only visible from the interior view of the screen door. Both inserts are cased with a ¾ aluminum frame (white or bronze). Inserts are housed within a separate ¾ wooden framework/decorative molding which surround the perimeter of the door's openings. This is the wooden area to the right of the white or bronze frame shown in the photos to the right.

The screen or storm is sandwiched into this housing by several small flush clips as shown in both photos on the right.

Screen & Storm inserts are made with your choice of a white or bronze frame - shown above.
Screen/storm doors feature a one piece insert on the inside of the door itself. Oversized doors may require a two piece, split set-up. Even if your door size does not require it, you may opt to have a two piece set-up for a small fee. A two piece screen/storm set-up is ideal if you have pets that may rip or scratch the screen or for kids who may push on the screen itself. If a replacement is needed, only one out of the two inserts will need to be replaced, rather than the entire insert for a one piece set-up.

(Standard) Included in Base Price
Color: Black (charcoal)
About This Screen Type:

Fiberglass screen is standard and included in the base price of your project. It does the job of keeping out most insects; it is more flexible than aluminum materials and most economical, but that doesn’t mean the quality is poor. Fiberglass screen does not crease, dent or unravel easily. It is the most commonly used window and door screening for new construction and replacement projects.

Pros:

Budget friendly; flexible; easy to find locally if you ever have to re-screen your insert; will not rust or corrode

Cons:

UV rays can cause it to fade over time; can be torn by sharp objects

Durability:
Clear Advantage High Visibility Screen

Color: Black (charcoal)
About This Screen Type:

Clear advantage screen is the ultimate screen for achieving better visibility without compromising quality. It is a fiberglass mesh made of unique construction: a low diameter fiberglass yarn that provides an optical illusion to make your screen look least visible compared to all other materials. Clear Advantage screen also allows up to 50% more natural light and improved airflow compared to standard screen. It is a lightweight screen material choice with the same weathering benefits as standard fiberglass screening.

Pros:

Least visible screen option if you wish to show off your entry door or prefer not to see the screen material in your door as much.

Cons:

Not as durable other materials (specifically if you are concerned about high traffic areas), but still of great quality.

Pet Screen

$100 Upgrade
Color: Black (charcoal)
About This Screen Type:

Pet resistant screen is seven times stronger than regular insect screening and the preferred choice of pet owners. Made of a thicker fiberglass mesh, it is ideal for areas exposed to heavy wear or potential damage, especially high traffic areas where pets come and go. Also a good choice if you have young kids in your household where you may be concerned about more wear and tear.

Pros:

Thicker material offers a premium choice where extra strength and protection are required; most resistant to pets, children, wind and weather; durable and long-lasting.

Cons:

Thicker material makes it look naturally darker (more dense looking) when compared against the other options. You can still see through it without a problem.

COPPER (BRONZE) SCREEN

$125 Upgrade
Color: Copper (Gold)

Sometimes called bronze screen, this formula offers you strength, beauty and durability all in one. Copper screen is a luxurious choice, providing you with a noticeable coppery gold finish which will oxidize to a patina that protects the copper screening from corrosion. Comprised of a highly durable 90% copper / 10% zinc wire mesh. Copper screen will patina over time—turning a dark bronze—adding a subtle touch of class and timelessness to any door. This High-quality screening material looks good on any home, particularly historic and rustic buildings.

Pros

Durable; timeless look; high end choice if you’re looking for a touch of elegance.

Cons:

Costly to replace; Over time the copper color will fade and the dark bronze will appear—this can happen sooner or later depending on location to weather. Also, depending on the size of your screen area, the copper screen can appear “wavy” due to the weight of this material choice. This is not a manufacturing defect but a natural look of the copper material.
