Hack-and-Slash-Game Looking to Redefine the Genre on the Wii

Late last month, a new game was announced from SouthPeak Games (ATV: Off Road Fury 3, Two Worlds) and TopWare Interactive (Earth Trilogy, Septerra Core). This may be some old news, but we’re just getting wind of it tonight. X-Blades is a brand new series where you take on the role of Ayumi, a blonde, pistol blade totting heroine  looking to take out any hostile that comes her way. It won’t just be the typical hak-and-slash game though; with the inclusion of guns, magic, and acrobatics, there’s definitely some potential in this title.

It’s not just the significant amount of weapon options to choose from that can make this a redefining monument in the world of the hack, its going to be the fully animated anime cutsenes that will help unravel the story. James Seaman, Managing Director at TopWare Interactive went on to say

“We are big fans of anime and that was really our inspiration for X-Blades. Our goal was to create stylistic characters and artwork, and mix that with lightning fast action. The result is a killer title that gamers and animation fans won’t be able to put down.”

Who knows what’s in store for this title. Could the full anime cutscenes and quick response times really help redefine the genre or are they setting themselves up for a big fall? Personally, from the looks of the screens released, I think this could stand a very sturdy chance.

UPDATE: X-Blades is not coming to the Wii folks. GoNintendo.com confirmed that LiveWii.com got a direct quote from the developers that…

“Unfortunately, X-Blades will not be coming to Wii, it was announced a few weeks ago as coming to “Next Gen consoles”, but unfortunately, Wii is not planned.” – Amy Hutchinson, SouthPeak Games PR
