Book Review: Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Hey there.

A lot of posts to do in the next week or so.  Add that onto exams in ten days.  Busy.

I need to write blog reviews.  I need to start the awards thing.  I need to write about politics and deep things too, as well as something more down-to-earth.

And I owe a book review.

I realise book review wasn’t on the review page.  I forgot about it =/  Silly me.

Double Identity is a thrilling novel written by multi-award winning author Margaret Peterson Haddix.

Imagine this.  Your life is perfectly normal, until your mother starts crying uncontrollably and your father never lets you out of his sight.  Your parents have always been overprotective, but this is more than abnormal.

n132730One school night, days before your 13th birthday, they drive you across dozens of states and drop you off at an Aunt’s house who you never knew existed.  Your father says he’s taking your mother to get some mental health, but something’s not right.

Your parent’s mobile phones are disconnected and your father has left you with no method of contacting him.

When you go swimming in the mysterious town, people act as if they have seen a ghost and one woman claims to recognise you.  Your aunt seems to read your mind.

And everything gets stranger when four birth certificates – all with different surnames and places of birth – arrive in the mail from your father along with thousands of dollars in cash.  When a strange man asks you questions about your identity, you are wondering the same.

That is the situation Bethany Cole is thrown into.  One day an average pre-teen, the next not knowing who she is.  Double Identity guides you through her story, and Haddix does a superb job of describing everything, painting vivid images in your mind.

Double Identity will keep you guessing until the very last page, and the conclusion, although in my opinion anti-climactical,  is thrilling.

I couldn’t put the book down – the day I got it from the library I had to finish it, and I did.  Haddix is an incredible author and Double Identity is a must-read for all people, reading enthusiasts or those who never read.

I would give it a four-star rating and I recommend that you should read it straight away.

pita breads of Greece. Pizza is a celebratory food that brings
people together, because everyone gets a slice (some
of us three). This represents the tomato paste and will be
    the base for the toppings.
