    Hi,
    Hope you’re doing well.

Could you please assist by clarifying the answers for following questions:
Question# 7: “Which of the following statements is NOT true for ADM?” Answer says ‘C’.
Why not ‘B’, because ADM Preliminary phase helps in identifying the scope of enterprise that gets addressed in Phase A.

Question# 23. “Which of the following is not a part of the guidelines for adapting the ADM process?” Answer says ‘A’.
Whereas Section 5.3 “Adapting the ADM” says in third paragraph ‘Another reason for wanting to adapt the ADM is if TOGAF is to be integrated with another enterprise framework’.

Kindly suggest. Appreciate your help. Thank You.

    • Sandeep says:

Question#7 – through out the book, its mentioned that scope is not defined by ADM. Helps vs Determined are two different meaning her. ADM will help to document/present the scope but the scope itself is defined by enterprise.
“The ADM defines a recommended sequence for the various phases and steps involved in developing an organization-wide enterprise architecture, but does not determine the scope for an enterprise architecture activity; this must be determined by the organization itself.”
Question#23 – Refer to section 8.3 – the question is on guidelines and not reason to “tailor” the ADM.
      Hope this helps.

  6. Feda says:

    Hi folks,
Last week I cleared TOGAF part 1 and 2. Just wanted to say, Part 1 is much harder than Part 2. One needs to memorize the definitions and the basics. Focus on Enterprise continuum and ADM. Part 2 though it was long but it was common sense. List the facts and the concerns and compare the answers against the concerns. The more concerns you cover the better.
It is a major relief to finish this test!
Good luck in the exam all.
BTW, this site is an excellent preparation tool.

    Hi all
I have created a quick reference Cheat Sheet for TOGAF which came very handy during my TOGAF preparation. These cheat sheets are available from my blog @ http://yaathirigan.blogspot.in/2013/03/togaf-prep-material.html

I hope people looking forward for their Foundation & Certification exam might find this handy.

  12. Jini says:

    Hi Udayan,

I cleared my TOGAF Foundation Level1 with 85% last week. This blog has been extremely useful in terms of gaining confidence in test. Good work. Thanks so much for your help to everyone.

I must say whomever clears the exam in this blog will definitely clear the actual test as the difficulty level in this blog is much much higher than in the actual exam.

My experience says that the TOGAF Study Guide PDF (level 1) and these practice tests are enough to clear the actual test. I did not buy the TOGAF pocket guide for level one. Hope this helps.

    All the best everyone.

    Regards
    Jini.

Q10 … I would say that’s a one to one relatetion ship between Sol. Cont and Arch. Cont
    http://pubs.opengroup.org/architecture/togaf9-doc/arch/chap39.html

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

“Every artifact in the Solutions Continuum has a one to one relationship with a corresponding artifact in the Architecture Continuum”

Though the constituent parts has a one-to-one relationship, artifacts may not / need not have that relationship.

Therefore, this statement is not true.

  14. Siobhan Shea says:

thanks so much for this ! am taking the exam this month .. this is a real help .. helped me realise it’s not enough to understand the framework, you need to know the details of the terminology, artefact names etc .. fingers crossed

  15. Thiruppathy says:

    Udayan,

I took the exam on Nov 2012 and passed in TOGAF 9 both part 1 and part 2 exam together.

Your questions really helped for me to revise the topics and gave a very good idea about the real exam would be. You have done the complete coverage on all the essential topics for the exam.

I strongly recommend the people who is preparing for this exam to take test on these questions which will help them to assess their knowledge before the exam.

Thank you very much and appreciate your efforts on helping us!

    Thanks

  20. Kris says:

Is the Answer to Q.40 …B ? please confirm

“The III-RM thus provides insights related to customer needs for
Boundaryless Information Flow in enterprise environments. The model also
points to rules and standards to assist in leveraging solutions and products
    within the value chain.”

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

Kris: Yes – there is an error. I have modified the answer. Thanks for pointing it out.

  21. Sam says:

One more option for Q-34 seems to be correct:
i.e. Stakeholder concern is address by one or more views

Here is what I found in TOGAF 9.1 Foundation Documentation:
    The viewpoints provided should be
customized to create a set of architecture views that ensure all stakeholder concerns are met.

  22. Sam says:

    Rgarding Q -24:
TOGAF 9.1 doesn’t explicitly state that:
‘Architecture principles are a subset of IT principles’ in Chapter 23
    Please refer http://pubs.opengroup.org/architecture/togaf9-doc/arch/

    Thanks,

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

      You are right again 🙂

      Yes, the release note states…

“…The description of Architecture Principles now divides them into two types only —
Enterprise and Architecture — whereas before they called out IT Principles separately. IT
Principles are now seen as just part of Enterprise Principles…”

  23. Sam says:

Based on TOGAF 9.1 I am not sure whether the answer for Q-20 is right.

    Here is what I found:
The ADM does not recommend the scope of activity; this has to be determined by the
    organization itself.

    Thanks,

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

Yes, your doubt about Q20 is partially correct.

“..The ADM does not recommend the scope of activity; this has to be determined by the organization itself…” existed in Togaf 9 also. What it means that there is no specific recommended scope of the EA work – it has to be specific to the enterprise.

However, if you look at the objective of Preliminary Phase – it contains:
“…Identify and scope the elements of the enterpr ise organizations affected by the
      Architecture Capability…”

Phase A objective does not explicitly talk about scoping, but the section on approach contains:
“…Phase A also defines what is in and what is outside the scope of the architecture effor t and the constraints that must be dealt with. Scoping decisions need to be made on the basis of a
practical assessment of resource and competence availability, and the value that can realistically be expected to accrue to the enterpr ise from the chosen scope of architecture work. The issues involved in this are discussed in Section 5.5. Scoping issues addressed in the Architecture Vision phase will be restricted to the specific objectives for this ADM cycle and will be constrained within the overall scope definition for architecture activity as established within the Preliminary Phase and embodied within the architecture framework…”

In Togaf 9.1, the phrase “agreement on scope” is not used at all.

So, I agree with you – Q20 needs modification.

  24. Fernando Lemos says:

I am still struggling with this text “Which of the following is NOT a stated reason for using a tool for Enterprise Continuum”. Could you please let me know what you intended to say? It seems to me that the answers to this question are not related to “using a tool FOR Enterprise Continuum” but instead the use of the Enterprise Continuum itself.
    Cheers.

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

If you go through the foundation training material section 6.9 you will see:

To manage the content of the Enterprise Continuum we need tools in order to:
      • Promote re-use
      • Enable sharing of architecture information within an organization
      • Facilitate easier maintenance of the architecture
      • Ensure common terminology is used
      • Provide stakeholders with relevant models

  25. Fernando LEMOS says:

Greeting and congratulations for you initiative, much obliged for I intend to undertake the exam by the end of January 2012.

Would you please explain the answer to the 23rd question?
    23. Which of the following is not a part of the guidelines for adapting the ADM process?
    (A) Coexisting with other Enterprise Architecture frameworks
It sounded contradictory to “Another reason for wanting to adapt the ADM is if TOGAF is to be integrated with another enterprise framework… ” on 5.3 Adapting the ADM.

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

Though TOGAF states that the framework can co-exist with other EA framework, there are no explicit guideline available on “Coexisting with other Enterprise Architecture frameworks”.

For all the other answers there is explicit guidelines

      • Fernando LEMOS says:

        Man you are mean!!!
These questions you’ve prepared are the toughest ever, good on ya!!!
I’m glad took the time to prepare them!!!!
        Cheers!

  26. Sunil N says:

I tried the exam and just secured 65 % of marks. I am wondering if in actual exam I will pass. Is actual exam will be similar to this ow will have more difficult questions.

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

Actual questions will be much simpler. You will definitely pass.

Are you attempting only part 1 or combined part 1+2?

  27. Kishore says:

    Hello,
The question 2 is “Which of the following is NOT a correct statement about an Architecture Framework?” (NOT)

Can you please help me understand the answer? (Is it C as specified in answers?)

    • Udayan Banerjee says:

Answer (C) is about “Architecture Capability Framework” which is only a part of “Architecture Framework”.

      • Completed my TOGAF LEVEL 1 Certificate today.. passed with 85%… Thankyou Udayan. Your sample questions were really helpful in getting an idea of how the exam questions are going to be twisted. And for others who are planning for the Level1 I would recommend the following:
        1) TOGAF self study guide available in the Open Group web site ( paid )
        2) TOGAF Pocket Guide
        3) Practice test from Udayan
        4) Practice test from Chris
        5) Practice test at the end of the study guide and at the end of the chapters.

The above should get you a decent score…. ( it took 2 hrs everyday over a period of 4 weeks for preparation and on full weekend).

I booked the exam immediately after reading the self study guide once so that I will have a target date to compete, otherwise it will be reading all the time…

        Now gearing for Level2…

      • Udayan Banerjee says:

        Congratulations

      • Kris says:

Any help on part 2 ? It says open book (pdf or online)…but will it help in finding answers?

      • Udayan Banerjee says:

Did you have a chance to see this post?

TOGAF – Preparation Aid for Part 2

      • Fong says:

This question is misdirecting. If Architecture Capability Framework is part of Architecture Framework, then it should not be considered ‘incorrect’. Answer E is more likely to be incorrect because TOGAF does not provide compliant product.

        What do you think?

      • Udayan Banerjee says:

For Q2, Ans 1,2, 4 and 5 is almost exactly what is written in the TOGAF 9.0 foundation guide section 2.11 where there is a description of what an Architecture Framework should be.

In the answer “C” starts with “Architecture Framework is …” not Architecture Framework contains…”

      • Jini says:

        Hi Udayan,

I am still new to TOGAF and preparing for Foundation level 1 and likely to book an exam start of March 2013. I have got the TOGAF Foundation Study Guide 9, I am confused with this 9.1 version. Please can I know what is that? Is the study guide 9 still valid to clear exam in 2013 or I have to buy a new book for version 9.1?
Many thanks in advance for your help and valuable time.

        Regards
        Jini

      • Udayan Banerjee says:

        Jini

If you take the test before June 2013 then you have the option of either studying ver9 or 9.1. From June 2013 it would be only ver9.1.

See this post for more detail – https://setandbma.wordpress.com/2012/03/26/togaf-9-vs-9-1-comparison/

  28. Jini says:

    Hi Udayan,

Thank you so much for the information you provided about version 9.1. I looked at the site and found it extremely useful. Thanks again. 🙂

    regards
    Jini

  29. Jini says:

    Hi All,

I have just realised that all the tests (including Chris’ test) in this blog are identical to the 3 simulation tests given at http://theopenarch.com/81-tests/72-togaf-9-exam-tests.html

So just do one of these (e.g. either tests from these blogs or three simulation tests on the site mentioned above).

However, thanks to Udayan for all his help to solve queries of an individual.

    Good luck everyone.

    Regards
    Jini

  30. Udayan Banerjee says:

Yes, Manuel Di Toma created his simulation test based on the Chris’ and my tests.
