The following dogs are currently at the Stray Dog Kennels and need Rescue Places

The following dogs are currently at the Stray Dog Kennels where they will need to stay for 7 days to allow their owner to claim them.

They cannot leave before the stated put to sleep date.

Unfortunately, the majority of dogs are not claimed so we have to find a safe place for these dogs within 7 days otherwise they are at risk of being put to sleep.

We DO NOT rehome stray dogs directly to the public, but can provide more details on these dogs should they move to another rescue or be signed over into our care.

There are currently no dogs in the stray kennels.

The following dogs are now safe in the care of Rochdale Dog Rescue.

The dogs featured below are now safe in the care of Rochdale Dog Rescue. Once a dog arrives into our care they will be assessed, health checked, neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. These dogs are available for rehoming; some of the more recently arrived dogs may be undergoing assessment still.

Please note that Rochdale Dog Rescue does not rehome to homes where there are children under 10 years of age.

We also need to ensure that if you do not own your own property the landlord has given their permission for a dog and any garden you have is fully enclosed and secure. We also need to make sure any dogs we rehome are not left 'home alone' all day and lastly that any other dogs you have are neutered.

We rehome within an approximate 100 mile radius of our base (but if you are close to this then please do ask us).

If you think you could offer any of the dogs a loving home then please complete our Rehoming Enquiry Form in the first instance.

No. 4862: RORY (Neutered, Fully Vaccinated & Microchipped)

Rory needs a new home.

Boston Terrier/French Bulldog Cross, male, born 15.04.2022. He is black, he has a smooth coat and he is small in size. He has been signed over to the care of RDR. Rory is a sweet boy who is feeling a bit nervous of his current situation. He is house trained and he has previously lived with other dogs.

"We met little Rory today. He only arrived yesterday and it took a while to get him out of his kennel as he was so unsure about what was going on and a little overwhelmed I think. He finally made it out and we set off for our walk with my mum and Stanley.

He was perfectly fine with Stanley from the beginning, neither really paid much attention to one other but were happy just pottering along next to each other. Rory was a bit all over the place to start with sniffing one side then dashing to the other side for another sniff, but he settled down once we got to the road. He does pull on his lead, I get the impression he’s used to more freedom, but he is only little so was perfectly manageable.
Once we got to the woods I tried him with half a gravy bone; we’d been unsure of how friendly he was so we’d just left him to it to settle into his walk. We needn’t have worried. He very sweetly took the gravy bone out of my hand and took his time gobbling it up. I gave him a little stroke and he let me clear some hair out of his eye too. He also enjoyed a good bum scratch.

Rory wasn’t phased by the cars on the road or a noisy tractor that went by. He had a little paddle in the stream and tried his best (but failed) to tiptoe round the mud. He really is the sweetest little dog and I feel like we took him back to kennels a different dog to the one we took out! "

You will find full details of this dog in his album in the photo's section on Facebook or if on FB by clicking on the link above to their album.

No. 4865: MR CHIPS (Neutered, Fully Vaccinated & Microchipped)

Mr Chips needs a new home.

Chow Chow, male, born 12.01.2022. He is black and he is medium in size. Mr Chips was found as a stray in an appalling state and came into the care of RDR; he had Entropion in both eyes for which he has been operated on, and was neutered at the same time. He has also been groomed. From June 3rd Mr Chips has been in emergency foster with other dogs, cats and older children.

"This morning I met Mr Chips. Well, this lad has been through it, there’s no doubt about that, but in spite of this he is a little sweetheart!
He came happily out of the kennel and came with me without fuss. It was a short walk today as he’s recently had the op.
He walked nicely on his lead and wanted to be out in front but not pulling. He seems not to have been given much training as he wouldn’t sit when asked - not even for a treat, and he certainly enjoyed his gravy bones.

He was so well behaved with other dogs and people that we met and just stood next to me whilst I chatted to a family with a dog. He’s the kind of dog that people want to stop and say hello to. He was transfixed by a calf in the field who decided it was going to follow us along the fence. Mr Chips just stopped and stared at it as if he couldn’t quite work out what it was especially when it moo’d at him.

He has a really cute face and a placid and friendly personality and it seems that just right now the world is a little confusing for him which is not surprising really. He has so much potential to be a lovely companion. He’s just lovely!"

"Mr Chips moved in with us today, he is such a cool dude & has already won us over, I can't imagine why he was straying or why he hasn't been snapped up since arriving at RDR.

Mr Chips has the type of temperament that would slot into most homes. We normally like breed experience for unusual breeds but his temperament is to die for, he gives no vibes of being difficult at all.

Adopters would however need breed awareness, he is very typical of the Chow Chow breed in that he appears aloof. His recall is likely to be non existent outdoors as he is nosey and likes to explore, he is also fit and fast so there is no way Im letting him off any time soon. Its no big deal to have him on a lead while out though.

I have actually never met a Chow with reliable recall so he isn't unusual. He will however recall while in my secure field for food. He absolutely loves food! He doesnt know us properly yet but I think he will bond with his people & may stick closer once he knows who he lives with.

He is affectionate and easy to handle.

He has met my cats, my 1.9kg Chihuahua and my 45kg shepherd and everything in between & everyone has accepted him with zero issues, he has such a lovely aura - I thought my shepherds may be a tad wary of him with his big bouffant hair do and teddy like appearance but its like hes always been here & he has great social skills.

He had issues with his eyes when he arrived at RDR but they have been corrected and he has had a good diet and a couple of grooms and is looking so much better all round. I met him a few weeks ago when he was rather smelly but he feels and smells lovely now.

He appears to be very clean, Chows are typically very clean in their environment, he had been holding himself in the kennels and was very relieved when we got to the grass.

His only cheeky behaviour is helping himself to any food left on the worktop within reach - if its reachable its his 😆. He is super steady meeting new people & dogs & he does not mind being left alone while you pop out.

He is a comical bear - he will need regular grooming, we are having him tidied again on Friday so he will be good for a while."
