Recently, my computer started talking to me.

It says "curious" when I type my name without a capital C, etc.

I looked in Prefs and did not see a way to turn this off.
I looked in my program for Spell Checking and did not see anything.

What to do here?

System Prefs > Universal Access > VoiceOver > Off

Perhaps?

Is this happening System wide or in a specific program?

Perhaps only in Word.

I have not been using my computer nearly as much as usual in the last three days.

Let me see what happens in other programs.

Just a bit annoying, but not a problem.

My computer is talking to me "system wide"

Spelling errors etc.

Still trying to figure out how to shut it up!

I guess it is time to Google

Hi Jim,
Thanks for trying to help.

What you show takes me back to the same screen as Robert suggested awhile ago.

VoiceOver is already shown as off.

And just to be sure I turned it on, and then back off again.

VoiceOver is actually something different.

My voice says "curious" every time it thinks I spelled a word incorrectly.

Or (for instance) it says "capitalization" if it thinks I missed one.

Did you check the second tab under:

System Preferences - System - Speech (ã,¹ãƒ"ーチ)

'er indoors only has the clock speak the hours but there are other options there I can't read 'cos they're in Japanese...

Edit: On the first tab, it has a check box called "Speakable Items" (off, in this case) under under that two more sub category tabs...

Thanks Wayne,

Yes I have checked what you suggested.

No help

I might have found the culprit.
I think it is in the spell checker.

Let's see what happens from here!
