English Class to the World

Where students learn English while learning lessons for life.

Experiential ESL (English as a Second Language): High impact learning combining outdoor adventure, academics, and friendships. Conjugate while climbing, learn English while learning life, converse while canoeing, make lasting friendships while having fun.

Peak Performance!’s Adventures in English! has two models.  One is an adventure camp full of exciting wilderness activities and lodging in a rustic camp environment.  The other model is “on campus” at an American university in dormitory style lodging with fun and educational site seeing trip.

Site # 1:

Cedar Lake Camp is located on 270 spectacular acres high in the San Bernardino mountains.  An easy trip from Los Angeles Airport (LAX), Cedar Lake is a year-round facility which can welcome up to 200 participants at a time.  Hiking, skiing, and nature trails lace through ponderosa pine forests, and a pristine 5-acre clear water lake invites students to fish, boat, or jump in for a swim.

Curriculum Activities:

Rock climbing, fishing, hiking, canoeing, high adventure ropes course, teambuilding, out-camping, emergency preparedness, nature walks, swimming, soccer, and basketball.

Site # 2:

“On campus” at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).  Mornings are spent in classrooms with afternoons consisting of both on-campus activities, and off-campus field trips and site seeing tours.

Curriculum Activities:

Trips to museums, Disneyland, the beach, Hollywood, Universal Studios, and many more well known entertaining and educational destinations, along with sports activities and many new games, teambuilding, swimming, billiards, and ping pong.

Program Methods:

Learn by doing--Experiential learning methods involve direct, hands-on experience gained through guided exploration and problem solving.  Activities are the heart of the experiential ESL process.

Engage fully--When you are absorbed in activities and deeply invested in outcomes, you learn more and retain more of what you learn.  We fully engage students physically, intellectually, and emotionally to maximize learning.

Create a context--We use challenging games and exercises that compel students to learn new vocabulary and put it to use immediately.  The learning process is accelerated because feedback is immediate, concrete, and visible to all.

Learning for the real world--Discussions and other reflective activities, help you transfer what you learn at Cedar Lake to everyday life.  Staff-guided exercises help you internalize the lessons learned.  English learned in the midst of exhilarating and unforgettable accomplishments endures.

Faculty:

Barbara Law, Dean of ESL Curricula at Peak Performance! leads a staff of certified and degreed professionals in experiential and ESL education.  But more important than credentials is who they are--caring coaches, friends, and role models for healthy and successful youth development.  They teach Adventures in English! because they care about students and are dedicated to both the academic and personal development of each child.

Adventures in English! programs are offered year round for durations of one, two, and three week sessions.

Pricing:

Pricing ranges from US$400 a week to US$875 a week per student depending on the number of students, number of weeks, venue, and time of year.
