The next time someone thinks the Ninja 250 is a 'tiny' bike..

It's funny.. As Americans, we always believe bigger is always better.. you need a 600 super sport to start out with just so that you can move up to a liter bike as fast as you can. I actually had a guy with CBR600RR tell me it was too slow after one season and he wanted teh 1000RR.. anyway..

Outside of the US they have so many more bike options in 'smaller CC". I know there are licensing restrictions and all.. but wow..

Yamaha YZF125R How nice is that? Its 15hp for cryin out loud but it looks great!

Honda's CBR125.. another 125cc and it also looks great.

Funny.. in teh US I don't think anyone would go near them except to poke fun.

I'm not saying that I would want a 125cc bike.. not by any means.. but for the young rider just starting out.. it would be a great option.. or as a city commuter.. heck you can get killed on a 50cc moped..

Hrmm I take it the CBR125 isn't available in the U.S?

I rode one of those during my motorcycle safety course (up here, none of the bikes are larger than 125cc ) and it's a lot of fun! It feels like you're riding a scooter! That being said, I definitely wouldn't take one on the highway. After sitting on one of those for two days, my 250 felt like a freakin' Goldwing!

Yamaha YSR50... Doing circles and figure 8 at 25MPH in half the road width... Grinning ear to ear the whole time! Got to get that bike on the road again but with an 80cc instead.

I'm sure it is oil injected. Pull up to the pump, fill the tank. The oil on most other things like this is good for a few tanks of fuel. Man I bet those 125's just scream down the road!

I saw a post on another board about this... Some guy had a CBR 600RR but never revved it above 6k because it would "break the engine". So he wanted an R1 because the 600 wasn't fast enough. Reading the explanations as to why he was an idiot were phenomenal.

Can't help you there, it was about a year ago I saw it... But, I know I saw it on the Sportbike Network - http://www.sportbikes.net/

Terrible, terrible forum. But if you want to read some trolls and funny flame wars, that's the place to be. It passes the time.

I learned on the CBR125 as well. We actually took it up to 90 km/h and it did decently! Wind was freaking scary though.

If not for the added height in my boots, I would not have been able to even get the balls of my feet down. :P I found it felt like the same height as the Ninja 250, just a bit skinnier.

I looked around the Yamaha at the weekend (we rode-out to a bike shop) and it's quite big.

I would describe it as 'tall' much higher than the 250r.

Still prefer the appearance of the Ninja

My buddies wife was in the same situation. She had one of the smaller Yamaha 600's (Forget the model...), and she had never taken it higher than 7k RPM because she thought it was like a car, and even 7k seems really high. Her husband drives a cruiser bike, so in his defense neither one really knew the power band. She had the same feeling that maybe she needed a bigger cruiser like he had, so she could keep up with them... Logically it makes sense: He's got 1200cc's and he's always able to go faster than her therefore she needs 1200cc's.

The story doesn't end badly though, she eventually did find 8-11k, and as far as I know she hasn't been looking at a faster bike. If she learns to handle the bike properly, she could easily out accelerate and out handle the big chrome monsters

EDIT: I actually started on the CBR125R, as seen in my sig. The bike was awesome and I was sad to see it go, but the Ninja had the same handling and performance below 8k rpm (it's not nearly as bad as you think) and much more above 8k . But, the CBR tapped out at around 120km/hr, and it was almost 60lbs lighter than the Ninja making it a bit hairy in the wind. Plus I was always flogging it in the 10-11k RPM range, which made it vibrate a bit too much. What I find ironic is these very reasons are the ones people list for moving from the Ninja 250 to something bigger...

BTW I was just at the dealer and some guy was looking at literbikes and asked if a powercommander can remove the 186mph limit. Guess he wouldn't like the 250.

What I'd really like to see is some Inline 4 250's like they made in the not too distant past.

Now THAT is a nice bike!!!! Kawasaki ZXR 250.
There is also the Honda CBR 250R which rocks just as much.

I would like a modern line-ups of 400 CCs. They are a very good balance of fuel consumption, weight and power/torque...and thumpers don't count!

I would really like one of the rs250's, they seem perfect to me. They don't have crazy top end which seems unnecessary to me on the roads, but they accelerate awesomely fast. My dad rides a 2 stroke, an rd350 and even though its a '75 its way faster than my 250.

My wife and I saw one at the dealer when we went to pick up my Ninja ... she fell in love with it!
Getting her one in the spring when I go back to get my 2010 250

But that 125CBR looks good IMO , I'd ride one!
