This lovely holiday cottage,
dating from the beginning of the 18th Century, has been restored to a
high standard and will provide a cosy and tranquil base for your holiday.
Situated just outside the charming village of Mantilly, about 9 km from Domfront, 'The Studio House' is within
easy reach of Cherbourg, the Normandy landing beaches especially Utah
and Omaha, and ferries to the Channel Islands. Mont St Michel
is a 1 hour drive away, and Bayeux, to the North, is about an hour
and a half. It is in an excellent position to serve as a base for trips to
Brittany or the Loire Valley. |
| The studio is in the grounds of a
Napoleonic Manor House, previously owned by a famous historian and now
owned and lived in by a sculptor.

| The port of Caen is only an hour and a half away and Dinard
airport, which has daily flights to the UK, is a similar distance.
The
area where the cottage is located is traditional Normandy and extremely
rural, quiet and peaceful. It's a safe environment for children, and the
lane, which passes the cottage, serves only five other houses.
Because the
terrain is gently rolling and the lanes quiet, cycling and walking from
the cottage are popular too. However modern swimming pools, sandy beaches,
ice skating, and canoeing are all a short drive away; and of course, being
in France, there are good restaurants and local markets abound and you'll
find lots of recommendations in the fact sheet we provide when you rent
the cottage.

One of the owner's favourite haunts is Mont St Michel
about 80 minutes drive away which is a beautiful Monastery Island town
with it’s own shopping centre and museum.
There is also the Flower
Village of St. Fraimbault and Bagnole de l’Orne, a slightly
aged spa town of great charm. The village of Mantilly, which is only one
km down the lane, boasts garage, tabac, patisserie, hairdresser, butcher,
food store, post office, restaurant, bar and much more.

The property comprises of:
- A fully fitted pine kitchen, with a fridge/freezer, microwave
& cooker .
- The living room is large and light (it was designed for
painters to work in) with a wood burning stove, stereo and video
player (you can watch films, but not 'live' TV!). A very good
collection of fact and fiction books in the library area. Also, wireless
access to the internet is available free of charge.
- The dining area has a table and chairs for up to six
people and two pair of French Windows onto the garden and patio.
- Downstairs shower room .
- Two bedrooms, all located upstairs. One has a double bed and
an ensuite shower room, the
second is on the gallery and has 2 single beds. There is also a single bed, with a draw
curtain around it, on the landing. Downstairs a further bed is
available if required, with a futon, in use as
a seat, for emergencies.
- Garden area, there is a large garden around the property
which you may make use of.

| So what will I need to bring? We
supply all bed linen, as
well as towels and tea towels. Should you want to bring your own duvet covers,
pillow covers or sheets, all
beds have duvets and English sized pillows . All the electrical sockets are UK standard
type so you can bring your own appliances; e.g. hair dryers, CD players
etc.
