International Friendly: Ghana 0-0 Nigeria – A summary of Ghana’s play

TIME

MAIN EVENT

FIRST HALF

0-10 mins  Ghana starts on an exciting note; keeping the ball with Nigeria chasing it.
Goal mouth melee. Prince Tagoe fails to make Nigeria pay for poor defending
Albert Adoma tries a confident shot from 30 yards. But he is off target.
Prince Tagoe gets a good scoring opportunity. He failed to make the chance pay off with some poor first touch
Anthony Annan, Albert Adomah, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Kwadwo Asamoah playing some good football behind Prince Tagoe. But there is no bite in attack
11-20 mins Ghana continues to push up. All the action in the attacking third; especially in the wings.
Quincy Owusu-Abeyie in a characteristic swift move down the left flank. Easy on the eye, but it does not lead to any real goal threat
Prince Tagoe a good shot on target. IT will prove to be his only shot on target in the entire first half. Austin Ejide was there to save the shot
Debutant Abu Mohammed steps up for the first time, winning a number of tackles
John Paintsil is combining attack and defense well; taking the leadership on the flanks
21-30 mins The game is beginning to switch in Nigeria’s favour. Massahnudu’s experience comes under scrutiny as the Nigerians beat him for pace and make a good attempt on goal. Adam Kwarassey will make his first of a couple of good saves. You’ve got to love Massahudu’s spirit to fight back though
On the other end of the pitch, Prince Tagoe is not connecting to Adomah’s crosses.
Massahudu Alhassan wishes to do the one-two with Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, but he is not that kind of player. Adomah does this move better with Quincy on the right flank than Quincy does with Massahudu on the left
Quincy did not put in much crosses and when he did they did not go through
Nigerian pressure begins to pay off as they miss two clear chances in two minutes. The Nigerians begin to exploit the space created by Anthony Annan-Mohammed Abu pair in defensive midfield. Ghana will have John Menash and Isaac Vorsha to thank for saving the day
31-45 mins Uche Kalu will not stop exploiting the gap in the attacking third. But Once again, John Mensah is there to save the day
Massahudu Alhassan is full of potential but his inexperience is exposed once again.
Adomah plays well but his feeds to Kwadwo Asamoah and Prince Tagoe are wasted.

SECOND HALF

46-60 mins Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari and Samuel Inkoom come on for Prince Tagoe, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Kwadwo Asamoah.
Nigerians [Joel Obi] continue to take aim at Adam Kwarassey
Abu Mohammed’s passing game is continuously faulty.
Gyan brings some bite to Ghana’s game. He connects to Samuel Inkoom in the six yard box, who did not get his first touch right and wastes the ball. Two minutes later, it was Inkoom’s turn to put Gyan through, but he also fails to score.
Gyan again, on the right wing, supplies a good ball to Muntari, bit the ball is wasted.
The ball falls to the Nigerians. A swift counter attack is set in motion. As usual, the right flank is exploited. This time, Massahudu will not be beaten.
61-70 Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu and Dominic Adiyiah come on for Abu Mohammed and Albert Adomah.
But for Adiyiah’s terrible first touch, he would have punished the Nigerians. Ghana wins a free kick as a result of Adiyiah’s move. Samuel Inkoom makes a mess of it.
Massahudu Alhassan sacrificed his limbs for a good tackle. He is taken off the pitch. A disappointed end of the game for the young Left Back with so much promise. He is replaced by Lee Addy
71-80 mins Ghana passing the ball well, but with no attacking bite.
The ball falls to Adiyiah on the left flank again. He gets the first move right by beating a Nigerian defender for pace. With so much room to make a good decision and pass the ball to Gyan, who was free, he decided to go for goal. The result….disappointing miss. He did not even force a save
Gyan and Muntati switch positions. Gyan continues to play some exciting football. He finds Agyeman-Badu in the 18-yard box. The ball is wasted again.
Anthony Annan steps out of oblivion with a couple of feeble shots which were easily saved by Ejide.
81-90 mins Dominic Adiyiah is found causing more havoc on the left flank. This time, he forces Joseph Yobo to commit a foul. Agyeman-Badu steps up to take the kick. His kick results in a corner kick which is wasted
The Nigerians wanted to have a surprise last laugh. Their effort results in a corner kick which could have been converted by Obi Mikel, but the Ghanaian defenders save the day.
