Are there any limits on the number of pictures we can upload?
No. There are no preset limits on the number of pictures you can upload and share with ComeHome.net.

Is ComeHome.net free for anyone to use?
ComeHome.net is free and intended for use by families to record and share their lives and experiences with other family members. It is NOT intended nor designed or sized to handle adult oriented groups or other types of media groups. Uploading, viewing and sharing or selling adult oriented images or other media materials is not allowed on ComeHome.net.

How do I start a family in ComeHome.net?
Simple! We recommend two steps:

First, jot down the names and e-mail addresses of your family members. If a family member does not have an e-mail address, such as a small child or someone without Internet access, we recommend you use the e-mail address of someone who can update that person's information, such as a parent or other close relative.

Second, enter a name for your family (most people use their last name), and all of the other requested information. After you click on the Sign Up Your Family button, you will be able to log in to ComeHome.net.

Once you have logged in, you can send invitations to the rest of your family that will walk them through getting started.

Why do I need a password with ComeHome.net?
Your user name and password allow you to keep your information private if you wish. Your diary entries, dates, and other information can be kept private from other family members or can be made available to them. You choose which by changing the settings on your personal administration page. To do this, click on the filing cabinet near the left end of the row of graphics at the top of the screen.

How do I join a family in ComeHome.net?
You can only join a family by invitation from the family administrator. The family administrator is the person that started the family or anyone that person has designated as a family administrator.

How do I use ComeHome.net?
After you are a family member or have started your own, we recommend you check your personal information and make sure it is correct. To do this, click on the filing cabinet near the left end of the row of graphics at the top of the screen. Don't forget to update your direct family relationships at the bottom of the personal information page so the genealogy will work correctly!

To use other ComeHome.net features, click your mouse on each of the graphics at the top of the screen.

How long is it before an announcement is deleted? Is there a way to delete an individual one if you created it? Also, the navigation buttons are good, but I don't know which one gets me back to the start or Announcement page. Is there one? Thanks, and thanks for being a free site,
When you enter an announcement, you can also enter the date when you want the announcement to end or disappear. The default is 90 days from when you enter the announcement.

Click on the ComeHome.net logo at the top left of the page to go to the starting feature with family announcements and messages.

If I enter a picture for an event or my diary, will it show up in the family photo album?
All pictures entered in any category will be displayed in a family photo album if that particular event is added to the album. The one exception is your diary, if you have elected to keep your diary private and not let other family members view it.

Can anyone see my family's website?
No. Information shared among family members is often personal and sensitive. Therefore, all family data on ComeHome.net is password-protected for your safety and privacy. Only the family members that you invite will have access to your family's website.

If I started a separate family site for other family members who didn't want to be in the family site I'm in now, is there a way to select which family my notes and messages would be posted in? Is there a way to do both dual family entries and separate if that was what I wanted.
If you are in more than one family (either through invitation or by starting others) the left column shows you all the families you belong to and you can select which family you are working with.

When you are working with a family, your messages, recipes, calendar events, photos and others are normally limited to that family. However, it is possible to share photo album entries and recipes between families without having to enter them for each family.

I started a family but now I see that someone has removed me as administrator. How can I become an administrator again? I thought the main admistrator password was a secret.
ComeHome can not become involved in disputes between family members over administration of the family web site. If you start a family and appoint others to be administrators, they have the same power you do so choose carefully.

If someone removes you as an administrator, it was probably a mistake. Just contact the other family administrators and ask one of them to reinstate you as an administrator.

If someone removes you as an administrator on purpose so they can "take over", we recommend you just start a new family and not invite that person to be a member. And be careful who you make administrators since they can invite others as well.

I am already a member of one family- so I have and password and login. Is there a way for me to set up another family from within that account? I'd rather not have to choose another username and password (I'm too likely to lose or forget them.) Thank you,
Yes there is.

1. Log in as you normally do

2. Select the Admin feature at the top of the screen

3. Click on the New Family button on the left

4. Enter your new family name and then click the "Create Family" button.

5. That will take you to a Congratulations screen. From there, just click on the login button and you will be returned to ComeHome with your new family as another option on the left side.

6. Click on the new family name and then click on the "Select Family" button to go into your new family.

7. Click on the admin feature icon to add new members to your new family. The really cool thing about multiple families...You can share photo of events, resources, people and more between the families without having to enter the information more than once. You can share recipes the same way.

So when I add my wife's birthday to our family photo album, I make it visible to her family too with two clicks of my mouse.

Hope this helps.

I see you can upload a limitless amount of photos, does this mean there is unlimited storage space? Can you post audio or video files as well?
Unfortunately there is a limit to everything. But we do not want to place limits on the number of photos and no limits are planned at this time.

We have no plans to support video or audio files just yet. Maybe someday. The beauty of photos is they can be compressed so they do not take up much room. The same can not be said for audio or video files today. I personally want ComeHome.net to support audio and video someday because I want to record my grand children's first words and steps. But we are not there yet.

Can you tell me how much MB's the site will allow on my family's page if I were to use ComeHome.net?
We do not have any preset storage limits at this time.

Can anyone invited to the come home site make changes to the data?
Any family member can change their own data such as their diary or recipes they have entered.

Only a family administrator can invite new members and change the data of other people.

can I upload html files or Gedcom files to build my family tree?
We do not have that capability at this time.

However, in the future we plan on expanding the genealogy section to be able to use standard genealogy file formats as input. We can not say when that feature will be added though.

Hello, I just recently started a family web site with another free site but the photos is the most important part to me. I could not tell by viewing your site how easy it would be to upload photos and mass upload. Also would like to know if the photo album could be easily shared between two family sites. Thank you
At this time ComeHome.net supports uploading only one photo at a time.

The good news is that the events, people, trips, etc. that the photos are linked to are easily shared between families. Example...I added my wife's birthday event to my family's Birthdays photo album, uploaded the photos, and then added her birthday to her family's Birthdays photo album with two mouse clicks.

I have a few questions: 1) A family's page doesn't seem to have the concept of a "home" page. This along with an almost total absence fo navigational buttons makes the site extremely hard to move around on. 2) I don't see any provision to automatically email the memeber when a change occurs on the site. Is there anything like that? 3) I don't see any provision for keeping simple lists with a provision for comments on the items. List of Books, Movies, etc. This seems like an obvious feature to have. More useful than "yardsales". 4) I am assuming that this site is in fairly early stages of development and hope it evolves. How about an ability to send emails to some or all of the members of the site? Click on names to include them ... click on ALL to sent to all? Thanks for putting the site up.
Good questions...Let me see if I can help.

1) When you log in you are presented with your family Announcements and Messages page. The icons across the top are the navigation buttons.

2) You can select to be automatically notified via email about new recipes, gift list updates, announcements, messages (if the member selects you), and you can be notifed via email up to 6 weeks before a calendar event

3) Right now all we have is a Favorite Web Sites feature. But we are working on updates all the time and a more general "favorites" sounds like a good idea.

4) We are adding more features all the time. If you select the Send New Message button after logging in you will be able to send an Email to any or all your family members almost exactly as you describe.

You are welcome and please let us know what else we can do to make ComeHome.net better.

I am the administrator for our family site. It could create problems for me to "give" passwords to those I invite. I've checked out other sites. Some have a system that when the "invited" log on, that person is able to make their own password. I like the ComeHome.net look and features best. I feel that the password system, however, could be improved. Is this a possibility?
That is a great idea.

At ComeHome.net we are pretty paranoid about privacy. Right now we ask that you give a person a starting password to go with their username just so someone not in your family can not get to your family data accidentally or otherwise.

After a member has logged in, they can go to the Admin section, click on their name, and change their password to anything they wish.

However, it would not be difficult for ComeHome.net to assign a good random password to start with so you do not have to. The member will still be able to change it if they wish. We will make that change with version 2 which we are working on right now.

The roundtable discussions are kind of HIDDEN from first-time visitors...please consider rearranging the webpage to make that portion more dominant. Thanks :)
Version 2 of ComeHome.net will allow you to select which section you want to have as your starting section. So if you want to start with the calendar, you can. If you prefer the roundtable, you can select it to begin with. And you can change at any time.

We will also highlight those sections that have new information since your last visit.
