Review of the Accucover Scope Cover - Overpriced gadget or essential accessory?

For those who are not familiar with this product, the Accucover is a scope slip on flip up cover which has high visibility markings designed to help you improve the consistency of your eye to scope alignment, therefore reducing parallax error. The makers also state that it will aid the reduction of cant error and increase the speed of target acquisition.

    See the Accucover site:
    http://www.accucover.com/

As nearly all of my airgun shooting is currently concerned with the control of rats and squirrels , I was naturally going to be interested in any device which could potentially speed up target acquisition and reduce potential parallax and rifle cant error.

My first impression of the Accucover, was that of a well made quality item (as you’d expect from a flip-up costing nearly £20). Fitting the Accucover on my Hawke SR-6 was a little bit of a stretch, the Accucover I purchased was the largest in the range designed to fit scopes with oculars between 41-44mm.

Once the Accucover was aligned with the reticule, I practiced shouldering the rifle in slightly different standing positions. It immediately became apparent that the Accucover made slight inaccuracies in relationship between eye position and scope very obvious. Its fluorescent markings also made slight rifle cant errors very evident.

To simulate the taking of rapid standing shots, I skewered a dozen acorns on the barbs of a barbwire fence in the corner of a field (20° either side of me at 25 yards). I then randomly chose a target, shouldered the rifle and took a considered shot. The results were very pleasing, all the shots were taken in approximately 2 seconds and all were on target.

In summary, I found the Accucover did significantly increase the speed of target acquisition. The brightly coloured markers are excellent indicators of eye alignment and cant errors which make acquisition of the correct rifle hold a very rapid and intuitive process.

My initial field test of this product has greatly impressed me - sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

Had a cover come through the post today, fitted to my Hawke, also found it a little snug but on reflection I suppose it has to be to stop it moving.

Anyway, results. I agree with the above review, found it to really speed up aiming & works best once you stop trying to use it - it seems to come naturally to line everything up.

It has definately improved accuracy as well, groups are much tighter at ranges from 20 - 25 yds & at various heights. 20 quid well spent

After reading this review i also purchased one, sucker for a gadget

Put it on my leup mk4 and went to the range yesterday,

First impressions were good, even though i was shooting off caldwell bags it showed up any error in canting , i also spent less time finding the correct head position as the hi-vis markers do help you find center quicker.

Most of the guys at the club had a look and agreed it was a good concept,
only downside was the flipup button flew out never to be seen again,

I e-mailed the maker and they responded first thing saying they would send me a spare, and if it happens again they will replace the cover,

Can't say fairer than that, so all in all a good product, 8/10 so far and if it improves my scores i'll be putting them on my other scopes
Don’t you find it Funny that after Monday(M) and Tuesday(T), the rest of the week says WTF?

I'm with the thumbs up crew. Tried it Sunday and found it very useful to double check my head was in the correct position. I think that after a while you will be able to ignore it and line up subconsciously. I think it is definitely value for money.

I like gadgets......but only ones that work....This does.

yep same again ordered other week and through very shortly after, it feels weird to use at first but then comes more naturally, the best bit I like is the fact that the cover folds back 270 degrees rather than butler creek ones at about 180 degrees which inturn means that less to poss get caught or snag as well as enabling both eyes open shooting, I mounted mine with the green button at the 6 o'clock position so easy to open whilst rifle is shouldered and the cover then lies along the left side of the scope.
all in all a deffo good buy.

    Plastic lens cover

Quick question, has the accucover got a plastic lens cover. The only reason I ask, is because my night vision sometimes mists up so have to stretch cling film over the lens. A plastic cover would help.
    Thanks Neil

Unless it's a scope enhancer, which is also an optical aid.
