FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Here are some of the questions that
customers most commonly ask. If you don't find
the information you need below please feel free
to contact us.
How long has Anchor English
Proofreading been in business?
Anchor English Proofreading has been in operation
continuously since 1999. During that time we have
proofread thousands of documents.
Are all your editors native
English speakers?
Yes. We only use editors who have English
as their first language. You can also specify
whether you prefer British or American English.
Other companies offer different
levels of proofreading at various prices. Why
do you only offer a single level?
In our view, offering different levels of service
is unnecessary and confusing for the customer.
Our experience shows that customers simply want
the English in their documents to be as good as
possible. They don't want to worry that mistakes
have been missed because the proofreader has only
carried out a "light" level of checking.
Therefore, we check the English in every document
to make sure it is as good, natural, and fluent
as we can make it.
And we do this at a very reasonable price.
Do I have to pay in advance?
For new clients or for short documents we request payment with the order. However, for established clients we can offer payment on completion of the work. However, we may request
a deposit or payment in stages for particularly
long documents. More details on our 'How
to pay' page.
How long does it take to
proofread a document?
Please see our 'Editing
times' page.
How much do you charge?
Please check our 'Prices'
page.
How will I know what editing
changes you have made?
When we return your document all editing
changes will be clearly marked in a different
colour. You can then review the changes and accept
or decline them as you wish. We will also send
a second, 'clean' document with all editing changes
implemented, ready for immediate use. You can
find more details on our 'How
we proofread' page.
Can you proofread technical
documents?
Yes, we have considerable experience
in this type of proofreading. Many of our customers
are researchers in advanced scientific and academic
fields, and send us documents of a highly technical
nature.
How do I count the number
of words in my document?
All word processing software will have
a 'word count' tool. For example, in Microsoft
Word you will find it by clicking 'Tools' from
the main menu, then select 'Word Count' from the
drop-down menu.
