The world lost a very good boy early Sunday morning. After 9 years and 9 months of a truly great life, this beast of a dog was finally done in by a stuffed animal (a squid, fittingly) that caused his surgically repaired stomach to flip for a second time. Tearfully, @lizzardsticks_ and I decided against another risky emergency surgery for a dog that had already lived several years longer than we ever expected. He peacefully took his last breaths in the arms of his mom and dad.

If you could see past the drool and the slobber, you knew Jamo to be one of the kindest, sweetest souls to ever inhabit an overgrown dog’s body. He was a 165 pound lap dog that didn’t give much consideration for personal boundaries. He insisted on sleeping in bed with me most nights until he could no longer climb the stairs to my room.

He had a mean bark and a gentle soul. He could stare down a neighborhood moose, while still being terrified of vacuums, thunder, tile floors and, depending on the day, stairs. His eyes could melt your heart. His breath and his general gassiness could clear a room.

Like his dad, he loved bagels, peanut butter and playing in the snow. Like his mom, he loved camping, adventuring and playing in the water.

A lot has changed over the past decade, but Jameson was always there for both of us when we needed him most. Thanks to all of the friends and family that helped make Jamo’s life a very special one. He asked me to slobber on you next time we see each other.

Miss you terribly, big guy. 😢💔
